Online Book Launch: The Return to the Archive (Schwerpunkt, JBDI XVII) To:

21 January, 2021

The Franz Rosenzweig Minerva Research Center and the Leibniz Institute for Jewish History and Culture – Simon Dubnow are delighted to invite you to the online launch of the focal point (Schwerpunkt) "The Return to the Archive: Dispersal, Transmission, and Anticipation in Personal Archives between Germany and Israel", which appeared recently in Volume XVII of the Dubnow Institute Yearbook.

In this event, we will celebrate the recent publication of the focal point, an important scholarly product of the international archival project “Traces and Treasures of German-Jewish History in Israel” (2012-2019), initiated and run by the Rosenzweig Minerva Center, Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach and the Dubnow Institute.
This section includes nine articles that were written by young scholars who participated in this project as archivists and researchers in the humanities and as such stress the understanding of archive as a participatory process related to migration, flight and nation-building. It also brings to light important empirical findings from the personal estates of German-Jewish intellectuals and scholars, in fields spanning from orientalism to city planning, zoology, librarianism and more.

Chair: Benjamin Pollock (Director, Rosenzweig Minerva Center)
Speakers: Caroline Jessen (Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach), Lina Barouch (Independent Scholar / Minshar College of Art), Amit Levy (Rosenzweig Minerva Center), Enrico Lucca (Dubnow Institute), Yfaat Weiss (Director, Dubnow Institute / Hebrew University of Jerusalem).

The event will take place on Monday, January 25, 2021, at 20:00 (Jerusalem) / 19:00 (Leipzig).
